Finding my voice in art and my passion behind the WHY.  

For as young as I can remember, my mind was always finding ways to change what I saw. I never settled for the dresses my dolls came with, or the little homes, I was sure to create something different. While I advanced in my art classes as well, that's where saw I can be my own artist. But life never goes the way we think it will, so I instead advanced myself in my other love for photography and ended up in visual merchandising and Interior Design.  I knew painting and being creative would always be there in the back of my mind, I wasn't even sure art would give me the financial ground I needed so it stayed behind a door where I let it sit.  

But becoming sick in 2018 opened my eyes to another level. I was out of work and bed ridden for weeks. I found myself not knowing how to get out of my head and forgive myself for how I declined. The simple things of life quickly became extremely hard to do on my own. My mind would race daily with thoughts, "it's not fair, you didn't do this. Your body will heal, we can be normal again, this is not your fault." Finding my voice in art after I had gotten sick was what gave me the passion to continue on. To do what I have always loved and been good at doing.  Why do I paint? Why do I make and create? Because one day I opened that door and allowed myself to be vulnerable with the canvas.  I took my paintbrush and put all of my every feeling into that stroke of paint and created something that is One of a Kind and has emotion and meaning behind it. Because it gives me true joy to know my talents from God can be used in your homes now with every piece I continue to make. Because knowing I can hold that brush one more time and make something that can never been made the same twice lets me know it's unique. Because my ideas and designs will never be someone else's'. Because as a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, I know just as we are carefully created, I want all I create to be the same! I as Alexa Michael Hakim, LOVE that I am already different for having a male middle name for our cultures tradition. This will live on with me for the rest of my days!
